Periodontal Therapy

Healthy gums play an essential role in maintaining your overall oral health. Periodontal disease, commonly known as gum disease, is one of the most common dental conditions among adults and can lead to inflammation, gum recession, and tooth loss if left untreated.

At Terrace Heights Dental Center, we monitor gum health closely during routine exams and cleanings and focus on early detection whenever possible. If signs of periodontal disease are present, our team will work with you to recommend treatment options that help restore and maintain long-term oral health.

If you have questions about your gum health or would like to schedule an appointment, our team is here to help.

Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical periodontal treatment often recommended when signs of gum disease extend below the gumline.

This treatment is completed in two stages:

  • Scaling removes plaque, tartar, and bacteria from around and beneath the gums.
  • Root planing smooths the root surfaces of the teeth to help discourage future buildup and support healthy healing of the surrounding tissue.

By addressing infection below the surface, this treatment can help improve gum health and reduce the progression of periodontal disease.

Antibiotic Therapy

In some cases, localized antibiotic therapy may be recommended alongside scaling and root planing to support healing and improve treatment outcomes.

This targeted treatment delivers medication directly where it’s needed to help reduce bacteria, support gum tissue recovery, and promote healthier periodontal pockets over time.

Our team will determine whether antibiotic therapy is appropriate based on your individual needs and treatment goals.
